this ain't nothing but a summer jam.

Wow, it feels like I haven't stared and typed away at this screen for so long. I have been a bit of an absent face around the blogging world but recently, my life has been a blur of uni deadlines, late night drinking, parties and stress that I simply haven't be able to bide much time to just sit down and write. (It's the end of year, so the general drinking the night before deadline dates has commenced thus leading to self-inflicted and slightly un-nessesary stress).

I have however, found a massive relief in shopping this week, after my state of turmoil over the lack of it in my life over the last month or so, managing to wittle far to much money on yet more things to add to my summer wardrobe. I do it because it makes me happy. Shopping makes me happy.

One of my investments was this little jumpsuit beauty from Miss Selfridge. (I literally never buy from here, but I couldn't help admist my mad adreniline rush to be shopping again, I pratically sprinted into every shop, rugby tackled the displays, just to find the next best thing to slip into my wardrobe.)

If you don't like patterned or daring peices I'm going to take a guess right now and say you hate this and would rather jump into a pool of blood thirsty sharks than wear this but I feel in love with it, so I am sorry if it hurts anyones eyes. I think it's so perfect for my holiday's this year as it can be worn in the day or dressed up with heels at night. This was far too much money for a penny less student to be spending but I need to treat myself...I did get some charity shops buys too today, so it balances out. Or at least I like to think anyway. My bank doesn't hate my that much; at least I am spending money to give back to them, even if I don't have it just yet.

I thought as I haven't been on here in a while I'd my own summer fashion tips...they are as follows:-

* STRAW HATS- Another little summer love of mine is the straw hat. Yes, granted it looks a bit like you have raided a farmers wardrobe BUT it also looks so cute! Personally, I would wear with demin shorts of something and also I think they look fabulous with a pair of bug sunnies. Or to be honest, I think you can pretty much wear it with anything. They have them everywhere at the moment for 5 or so pounds..can't really say no to such a bargin price can you.

* MAXI DRESSES- The amazing thing about maxi dresses is that you can find ones to suit every person! I for one have seriously short legs and curves that make my hips like the size of mount everest so the tigher, cotton like ones make me look like a whale. They a suitable for the super skinny, model like, girls! (Jelous if thats you). I tend to stick the the floaty ones with the more plunging neckline as they are far more flattering on me. There are so many different types out there you can do the headless chicken searching and find one to look perfect on you.

* CORAL- I am loving this whole coral makeup shabang! I brought the Barry M lipstick and nail varish a few weeks ago to veer away from my red look of the winter and I must say it is fantastic. Makes me feel so summery and with a bit of shimmer on the cheeks I'm ready to go.

* DEMIN DEMIN DEMIN- I love demin shorts for the summer. I think they are so easy to throw on with any top, tshirt or cardi and they always look effortless. I also must admit, while alot of people don't, I think double demin is seriously hot. I literally love it! I think it looks classic and yet so easy to wear. Demin shirt tucked into demin shorts with a tan belt and bag is in my opinion, beautiful. Or maybe a demin shirt open over demin shorts. There is alot of options. (and yes, I am loving the tan accessories too).

* SUNGLASSES- Do i need say more? My sunglasses pretty much stay glued to my face throughout summer. That is all.

There is so many other key things I could list and if I don't shutup this post will just ramble on and on and on and bore you all to tears. But I would also like to recommend: florals, pastels, tan bags, straw bags (although obviously not worn with the straw hat you're all going to buy), wedges, strips, sundresses and all the other beaaaaaautiful summery things you can think of!

live fast and die young.

I've decided to do a slightly different blog today and lay off the writing as firstly, I have been writing all day thanks to uni work and secondly, I also have a love for beautiful photos, something I feel I never really express enough. So, I thought I'd do a little collection of some of my favourite snapshots.

These are just a few pictures that I saved ages ago off an image source website because I just love them. I know they are all mostly fashion based but thats were my true love lies so I can't really help that. I just wanted to show you these because I think they are amazing. I adore the second one down and the outfit in the third one. Let me know if you liked this post and want more like this or if you prefer my writing bits.

chunky monkey.

I am in a place of indecision at the moment. I know that this season clogs are the 'must have summer shoe' with Chanel's recent collection but I just don't think I can ever move past them as just an embarrassing memory of my childhood.

When I was about 6 I pretty much had every colour of clogs there was; my favourites being a rather snazzy pair of bright pink patent ones if my memory serves me right. It was probably less than a year ago, me and my mum were looking through old baby albums and I sat there cringing at the delightful outfits that I was unwillingly dressed in; clogs being a particular hatred of mine.

But now, they seem to be back in full force, but to me I really can't shake the childhood pictures that haunt me, maybe they should have stayed in the 90's where they belong.

They aren't the most elegant of shoes, infact I'd even go as far as to say they are seriously ugly but yet why is there this sudden hype about them? I just fail to see how something so ugly and chunky can make a women feel graceful like heels do but yet people seem to be falling head over heels with them, even Mary-Kate was pictured wearing them.

Is it right they should make a comeback like so many things in fashion do or should they stay as a one hit wonder? Personally, if they haunted me then, they will only haunt me again in a few years time when I look back. I think I'll leave my clogs in the 90's.

A little bundle of heaven online.

I basically died, went to heaven and got reincarnated as Lauren Conrad yesterday when I was aimlessly flicking through the ASOS magazine that I get delievered every few months I think. I'm not sure, I think I get it a few times a year maybe.

Anyways, while I was looking at their ideas of 'summer must haves' like every other magazine, I got immediately sidetracked when I saw a beautiful little article and annoucement that they are now selling Chanel bags online at ASOS. I think I may have squealed a little bit when I saw it.
Actual, genuine happiness. Although I can't actually afford one right now thanks to little student money I have, it is one of my life goals to own a Chanel bag or two or three, as sad as this may seem.

For as long as I can even remember, Chanel bags have always caught my attention over any other bag and I am a massive bag lover. I'd say I actually love bags more than shoes! I guess your either a bag or shoe girl...or maybe both like me. I think Chanel bags have a wonderful and extra special class about them. I love their original quilting and chained straps; I just want to sleep in a bed of Chanel quilting comfort.

I do think that now selling them online will sadly diminish the rush of actually walking into a shop and proudly walking out with £2000 worth of bag beauty sat perfectly wrapped inside that carrier swigging from your wrist, but at least this way I can stare at the bags for hours without having to put on my poshest accent and most stuck up face just to casually stroll into the shop, pretend I have intent to buy just so I can feel and smell the leather, only to decide it's not good enough. Not being funny but who in their right mind would decide a Chanel bag isn't good enough! I reckon the staff must eventually clock on...

Well at least now I can stare at their glorified beauty from the comfort of my own bed and the comfort of my natural face. Thank god I will never have to walk around pouting to make it look like I've had lip injections or something.

I can't wait to walk into Chanel and actually buy something. It will make my life complete as I know it. One day, I WILL own a Chanel bag, there is no doubt about that; I'd die unsatisfied if I didn't. I think I'd even shovel horse manure every day for a week for free just to own one.

I hang my coat up in the first bar.

Personally, I think a night out in usually the perfect time to show off your wardrobe. To put on your favourite heels, dress or skirt, to make you feel a millions dollars. It's probably the favourite part of my night out, to get all dolled up and picking a dress from my collection of 67 dresses that I have, (I counted yesterday and I am now slightly worried about my insane dress habit). So, why is that so many girls insist on making a night out their ideal time to dress like they have walked right out of the local prostitute house, by slapping their face with so much makeup you could mistake them for being the Benefit counter at your local department store, and wearing a skirt that looks like something about of my belt collection.
On friday I went for my average night out, and nearly choked on my malibu and coke when I saw one girl. Not out of jelously, or of her amazing beauty, as I would have prefered to have been halted in my drinking, no, it was thanks to her delightful outfit.
Now, I am all for individuality! I love seeing someone wear something in a new way or trying out a new idea but this 'outfit', if you can call it that, actually made me want to die a little bit inside.
Picture the scene: me and my girlfriends sitting in a bar having a few drinks and in walks in a young girl firstly with overly straightened hair, wearing a demin corset with leggings. OK, so it doesn't sound to bad just saying that, but let me finish. The corset didn't fit her. In fact I was subjected to rather a lot of tummy and hips where she was wearing her leggings as hipsters. One of my pet hates as it is, is the leggings and t-shirt look; I don't really want to see peoples bum cracks!
And while I was hating her outfit as it was, I was saw the shoes. OH THE SHOES... white buckle up boots. At this point, I wanted to cry. Actual, genuine tears.
I just don't understand how these people look in the mirror and think 'oh hell yeah, I look good!' because they would be lying to themselves and destroying eyes such as mine and my friends. Surely, on your weekly night out, you want to look fantastic not trashy. Well, I suppose some people see trashy as fantasic... how sad that they feel the need to go out looking like that.

if you would be so kind.

For one of my main projects for this year at uni is to produce a magazine article, sounds easy I know but you have to do EVERYTHING yourself; and i mean everything, from the photographs to the page numbers. It's actually quite fun really, so I'm not complaining.
Our brief was to do this season spring/summer trends and while most people shot off to do nude, or lace or something else really obvious, I chose to do something a little bit different.
I decided to do a modern take on Alice in Wonderland, inspired by the release of the new film. I noted that the main 'beauty secert' if you like, was dark makeup and the main clothing trend was pastels, which to me, almost seemed like a bizarre but yet a wonderful combination of the Tim Burton style with the gothic features and the Disney orginal colours of pastels. It might of just been me being having a crazy fashion faux pas, but I loved the idea and so unfolded my project.
I recently did the photoshoot for the feature and I wanted to share a few of the images with you as really do quite like them, but obviously let me know if you hate them so I can start making drastic rearrangements to my work!

So heres just a few of the pictures that are my favourites.

Apologies for the logos and the rubbish quality but the original files are really big so I thought I'd scale them down for this!
Anyways, I know they aren't great but hopefully for a first year uni student they are alright?

Wandering eyes.

Is it just me or is it that every time I walk down the street I just can't help but judge people. Not in the, 'I dont like you' way but by judging their style and thinking fashion police alert or hello sexy! I suppose it's my own way of thinking I'm some kind of Anna Wintour, thinking my opinion even counts; but there is just something about watching others walk by you and thinking, 'yes, i want that' or 'are they avoiding reflections today?'. It's sort of a way of passing the time on a journey I suppose but there is some sort of control and admiration that comes along with it.

I love when you see someone and adore what they are wearing. It can sometimes give a new take on everything and a trend that you binned before. It's a way of seeing how different styles suit different people; a way of opening your eyes to different doors and paths in fashion. On occasions, I have admired peoples outfits and thought about how my own individual take on it would come together. I think sometimes it's good to get fashion influence from the girl that walked past you in the high street rather than the celebrities that are simply styled by others, lacking their own individual taste. It's more inspiring to base a new outfit on a real, normal person instead of a fake bake celebrity. I'm not saying that all the famous and fabulous are like that or denying that some of them such as Mary-Kate or Alexa Chung have impeccable style, it's just that sometimes it's endearing to see a real girl inspiring and influencing other people take on fashion.

Spying unknowns outfits can also bring an element of humour to your life. It's always entertaining for some of us to see a girl, dressed head to toe in what you think is unspeakably atrocious, and thinking of all the ways you could give her or him a fabulous make over. Although, this does have it's downside if you are a slight obessive and will think about all the possible changes in that poor persons wardrobe all day and lose concentration on everything else surrounding your day.

You see, judging, in a postive way, is a wonderful thing. It can inspire and change your views. Judging can allow people to broaden their minds and even allow people to become more daring in their outfits; not because of the airbrushed model they saw in the magazine but because they saw a real girl making the trend look fabulous and wearable. I suppose by a regular women taking on something different and bold it makes others feel more confident in experimentation. Fashion is something that can be altered and adjusted to whatever your taste with the public more likely to make others feel secure to invest in fashion rather than models and personally, I think there is something quite remarkable about that.

The Love Of My Life.

Posted: Thursday, 25 February 2010 | Posted by Danielle Jennings. | Labels: , , , , 0 comments

So, like many girls, I use the phrase, 'that is the love of my life' or similairly 'you are the love of my life' a bit to regularly, as really I have over a thousands loves that complete me, these being shoes, bags, clothes, my blackberry; as you can imagine the list goes on. But also like any other girl, I find room for the love for my friends and family, each of whom i have also called the love of my life at some point in my life; many probably alcohol related statements.
Anyway, the other day, one of my beautiful friends, whined to me that she so desperately wanted to be in one of my blogs. She in fact got so excited at my recent charity shop blog (she is a fan of it) thinking she was going to get a mention, she squealed, "oh, oh, here i come!". Il let you picture her disappointed face. With that in mind, I just felt so terrible at her dismay and clearly how much it means to her to be a part of my blog, so i thought you know what, she can have her own little page. So, here you are Ruth, a whole one dedicated to you, how do you feel?!
I'd say Ruth is a mentalist to be honest. A mentalist, with as much as I hate to admit, great style. So below, I have put some snap shots of the lady herself that I have cheekily stolen from her FaceBook, kindly taken by her sister i think. So, here you have it a sneak peek at Ruth's wonderful collection.

There is a few pieces from what I'd call her vintage wardrobe. Her combination of style and accessories is always perfect. However, Ruth is now sporting a new look and bright sleek red hair, putting a finish to her unique look, pictured below.

You see, Ruth dares to be different. Her stand-out and fabulous style, never fails to her noticed. There has been many occasions where many people have complimented, "Wow, I love your hair!", there has even been an incident involving one boy that stalked this redheaded sweetheart asking everyone for her number, bombarding her with texts calling himself her 'badboy'. It was highly amusing but also proof that her style is electric, even when she does look like this....

She also doesn't go un-noticed by the same sex, she has a few lesbian offers to her list also. I think my personal favourite was definitely the lady tramp. Picture the scene: Ruth is walking, a slight bounce in her step as she walks past the flourishing trees of the park. As she breezes round the corner, heading back to her flat, a slight shock sends her reeling backwards. A old lady is standing infront of her, teeth rotted, those that are left, strewn with black markings. Her hair wasn't much of a sight etheir, all matted with last nights pillows mud and grease. As Ruth tried to continue her journey home, the lady shouted, "Oi love, you've got something on your fanny," Ruth slightly besmused peered down, only to hear the women claim proudly, "My eyes!". Naturally she ran.
Ruth's style is that of a vintage queen, varying from vintage clothes, Topshop and charity shopping; her quirky take on fashion admirable. However, it's not just her clothes that makes me love her, it's also her personality has shines through. Many times she has come out with some pretty special oneliners such as:

* "Fucking hell, i look pregnant, like the next virgin mary." "But your not a virgin?" "Oh yeah"

* "I think this dress kinda of makes me look like a slaggy granny"

Ruth is also known for watching strange programmes on her laptop, her personal favourite being Animal Heros, the tales of the gorilla and pig that saved lives. AMAZING! What an inspiration she is.

And these are the well-established reasons why this girl is other part of the love of my life collection. Now, I am sure she fully regerts moaning at me for her lack of mentions and officially hates me. Oh and also lads, this stunner of a girl is free and single, any numbers required just ask :)

Wang Wonderland.

Posted: Monday, 22 February 2010 | Posted by Danielle Jennings. | Labels: , , , , 0 comments

Today, as its persistantly seems to do so at the moment, it rained. It rained all through the night; the irritable drips keeping me in suspense for the moment of silence, then it rained all through the day, soaking my cream pearled mittens (which by the way are ADORABLE) and now as i look out my window onto the train line, it is once again, raining.
However, amoungst the mist, the chill and water that surrounded me today, i managed to find some relief and a slight ray of hope in the form of Alexander Wang. Now, i love his work. I think the beauty of his designs is hidden in their quirkyness. His designs are always so unusual, with the mix of fabric and colours, but still i absolutely adore them. It's always his collections to me that stand out. I think maybe it's because in general i have a great love for odd, quirky and vintage clothes and I think his collections always have that kind of appeal.
So, while sitting here on the day that hell chose weather, I found myself browsing and as always, being stunned by his spring/summer collection that showcased at New York Fashion Week.

And above are some of my personal favourites. I love the way Wang has made his clothes look so comfortable but yet chic. The combination of the funky sunglasses and slouched clothes makes the perfect summer wardrobe. Sunglasses are always a girls must have; the bigger the better, so i nothing to complain about with Alexander's wonderful designs; big and crazy!
I must also admit, I am an extreme fan of the plait for this season! I have been wearing my hair in the scruffy sideplait as my 'messy, just got out of bed' look for so long and now i feel as though I have a great excuse for doing it as often as I want...Alexander Wang told me so!
To me, Wang has always inspired my style. I suppose to some people, he may not be as well known or as loved as I'd like but i think his slack style always manages to look so sleek with his unforgettable accessorising and volumised hair completing his unique look; something I'm sure is a talent to master. Fashion is also about comfort aswell as looking fabulous and Wang himself even said that this season his collection was inspired by 'American Teen Culture'. Looks like for the comfort side Wang has got it spot on for this season once again!
